TikTok’s Latest Search and Discovery Update for Creators

TikTok released this new product in mid-March of this year. According to TikTok’s product announcement, the new tool “[supports] creators as they look to connect with audiences through Search.” 

Search Insights gives creators a more powerful and finely tuned search and discovery tool. This new AI-powered search tool allows them to:

  1. Find content inspiration relevant to their audience’s current interests. 
  2. Get insights into trending niche searches.
  3. Tweak and enhance their content strategies to adapt to their audience’s changing interests and needs. 
  4. Identify content gaps based on topic searches that deliver limited results. 
  5. Create content that’s more likely to perform well on TikTok. 

How To Find and Navigate Around Creator Search Insights

This latest feature is available only in select regions for now. If it’s available in your area, you can find it by typing Creator Search Insights in the search bar. The feature will soon have its own button/section in the app via Creator Tools in Settings

You may get several results. Select the feature’s dedicated page, which should appear at the top. On the CSI page, you’ll immediately see the top searched topics for the day based on your For You recommendations. 

You can filter the results in three ways:

  1. Tap the For you button. The setting is set to All topics by default. Select Content gap to view trending searches for topics with few relevant videos available on TikTok. 
  2. Tap the Trending button. Again, the settings are set to All topics by default. Select your desired category to narrow down your results. 
  3. Long-press on a topic to remove or report it. 

Search Insights Results Key Features

Each topic result shows a popularity score; you’ll also find some with the label Recommended topic. The label signifies that the topic has a higher chance of generating more views and engagement and greater rewards for the creator. 

You can tap the Bookmark icon next to topics you want to add to your Favorites. You’ll find your list of Favorites by tapping the Bookmark icon in the upper right of the screen. 

You can create a video about a topic straightaway by tapping the video camera icon next to it. The search bar on top of the screen lets you search for specific topics for your next video. 

Tap on a topic result to go to its dedicated page. You’ll see a graph representing its search popularity in the last seven days. You’ll also find tabs for Related videos and Related searches. Again, you can create a video straight from the topic page. Just tap on the red Create button at the bottom.
