How Does Gifting Work?

To send Gifts, a user must first purchase Coins, TikTok’s virtual currency. Coins are available in various bundles via the app. The exact cost of these Coin bundles varies depending on your location. In the U.S., a bundle of 70 coins is $0.84, 350 coins is $4.20, 700 coins is $8.40, and so on. You can check the exact pricing via your app.

There are two ways to purchase Coins:

1. Go to your Profile and tap the three-line icon/Menu in the top right. Then, tap Balance. Tap Get Coins and select your desired Coin bundle. Tap the Recharge button and complete payment. 
2. Tap the Comments section on a video or LIVE. You’ll see the Gift icon in the Comment box if Gifting is available. Tap the Gift box icon, then tap Recharge at the bottom. Select your desired Coin bundle, tap the Recharge button, and complete your payment. 

Different Gifts have different Coin values; these values appear alongside each Gift. For example, a Rose is worth one TikTok Coin, a Gift Box is worth 50 Coins, and Confetti is worth 100 Coins. The more expensive the Gift, the higher the content’s value to the sender. Additionally, the more Gifts a content creator receives, the more popular their content is.

Take note that the Gifts feature is not available in all countries. TikTok also limits the purchase of Coins and access to Gifts to users 18 years and older. Finally, only Personal accounts are eligible to receive Gifts.

What Do Gifts Mean on TikTok LIVE?

Gifts on TikTok LIVE give creators an opportunity to earn Diamonds from TikTok and monetize their content. Note that while viewers use real money to purchase Coins and send Gifts, Gifts are not convertible to cash. So, how can LIVE creators generate income from their content through Gifts?

Remember that the number and total value of Gifts a creator receives measure their content’s popularity, among others. If your LIVE content is popular enough, you may also receive Diamonds from TikTok. Diamonds are among TikTok’s many monetization tools, i.e., convertible to cash!

How To Enable Gifting on LIVE

To enable Gifting on LIVE and collect Diamonds through Gifts, you must meet the following requirements:

• TikTok LIVE Gifts must be available in your country. 
• You must be at least 18 years old (or 19 if you’re in South Korea). 
• You must be eligible to go LIVE. 
• You must have a Personal account. Government, politicians, political parties, and other public interest accounts are not eligible.
• Your account must be in good standing and must not violate TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. 

Follow these steps to enable Gifting during your livestream:

1. On the LIVE screen, tap Settings. 
2. Turn on LIVE Gifts. 
3. Customize other LIVE settings, then tap Go LIVE when you’re ready. 

Once you’re LIVE, your viewers can send virtual Gifts via the Comments section. Every time a fan sends a Gift, it will pop up on the screen in real-time. Make sure to acknowledge the Gifts to encourage viewers to send more and increase your odds of collecting Diamonds from TikTok. 

How Much Do TikTokers Make From Gifts?

TikTok does not have a fixed Gifts-to-Diamonds-to-money conversion rate. Remember that the value of Gifts varies based on how much Coin bundles are worth in a particular country. The cost of the Coins in your location, therefore, determines the cash value of the Diamonds you may earn. 

According to creator reports, one Coin is approximately $0.01 to $0.015. You can determine how much a Coin is worth in your country through simple division. For example, if 70 coins is $0.84, divide 70 by 0.84 (70/.084). This amounts to $0.012 per Coin. 

Creators who have received Diamonds from TikTok have also reported that one Diamond is worth half the cash value of one Coin. In the U.S., one Diamond is worth $0.005. If you collect 1,000 Diamonds, then you’ve earned about $5. 

However, TikTok may also take a percentage from the cash value of your Diamonds.

You must reach a minimum Diamond cash value before withdrawing your earnings. Again, the minimum threshold varies per country. 

According to TikTok’s Cash Award Withdrawal Terms:

“Withdraw minimum is divided into 1 dollar (for first-time users) 2 dollars, 5 dollars, and 20 dollars, 4 set amounts. You can choose to withdraw from one set amount when your diamonds are greater or equal to your chosen set amount. The rest of your diamonds can be withdrawn when they meet the set amount.”

TikTok also limits withdrawals to once per day. To withdraw your cash award, you’ll need a PayPal account.
