How To Get LIVE Access on TikTok

Are you a content creator or brand still working to build a solid presence on the video-sharing platform? Learning how to get LIVE access on TikTok should be on your agenda.

How many followers to go LIVE on TikTok? What features are available on LIVE? How can you maximize viewership and engagement for your first broadcast? Let’s navigate the ins and outs of TikTok LIVE and learn a few tricks along the way for a successful video broadcast.

TikTok LIVE 101

LIVE allows TikTok creators and viewers to interact with each other in real time. You can stream up to 60 minutes of LIVE content on the platform if you meet the following requirements:

  • You’re at least 18 years old.
  • You have 1,000 followers or more.

TikTok users can find LIVE content via the exclusive LIVE feed, as well as on their For You, Friends, and Following feeds. They can also visit their favorite creators’ or brands’ pages to access their live stream or use the app’s search tool. You’ll know someone is livestreaming when a pulsing circle appears around their profile image.

If you have LIVE access, here’s how to begin a video broadcast:

  1. Tap the Create button, scroll through the options below the Record button, then tap LIVE
  2. Add your livestream’s title and cover image.
  3. Add your desired Filter and Effects and adjust other LIVE settings
  4. When you’re ready to begin, tap Go LIVE

A LIVE creator can grant specific moderation permissions to help manage their live stream. You can access LIVE via the app or a web browser on a computer. You must download LIVE Studio (for Windows) or OBS Studio (for Linux, Max, or Windows) if you prefer the latter.

Managing Comments on TikTok LIVE

Especially if it’s your first time going LIVE on TikTok, delivering your content and managing viewers’ comments may be an overwhelming task. Fortunately, TikTok offers creators and moderators several comment management options:

  • Turn comments on or off.
  • Mute comments from all viewers or specific viewers for a limited time.
  • Filter and review comments before they appear on your LIVE.
  • Send an automated message via LIVE chat to inform viewers that you’re filtering comments.
  • Block comments with specific keywords or phrases.
  • Pin comments to the top of your LIVE chat.
  • Translate comments into your app’s default language.

Take note that except for turning comments on/off and muting comments, the options above are only available in the app.

Moderation During Your Stream

Creators and moderators can also access moderation tools to help them manage LIVE viewers. Use the following settings before you begin your live stream or even during your broadcast:

  • Add or remove moderators and assign specific permissions.
  • Turn Audience controls on to limit the LIVE to viewers who are 18 years or older.
  • Mute accounts so they can’t send comments during your LIVE.
  • Block accounts so they won’t have access to your LIVE.
  • Report a viewer’s comment.

The Multi-Guest Feature on LIVE

Use the multi-guest feature to invite guests or accept guest requests during your livestream. This also facilitates LIVE collaboration among creators, i.e., two or more creators can co-host a video broadcast.

Follow these steps to invite guests to join your video stream, accept guest requests, and remove guests:

  1. During your LIVE, tap the Multi-guest button at the bottom.
  2. Tap Invite and select creators or friends to join your stream.
  3. Tap Accept to approve guest requests from viewers or friends.
  4. Tap the Settings button to customize the LIVE screen layout and adjust guest permissions. Select Panel to keep you on the main screen. Use Grid to give everyone equal exposure. Choose Fixed layout so the layout remains the same regardless of the number of participants who join.
  5. If you want to remove a guest, tap the X next to the guest, then tap End now. You can also tap the Multi-guest button and X next to the guest/s you want to remove.

LIVE Gifts

Gifts are virtual items viewers can purchase with TikTok Coins and send to their favorite creators as a show of support. With enough Gifts, creators can also earn Diamonds from TikTok, which they can convert into cash. Gifts, therefore, offer an indirect way to monetize LIVE content.

Take note that this feature is not available to everyone on TikTok. A creator must have LIVE access, be at least 18 years old, and live in a location where Gifts are available.

TikTok Follower Counter: Keep Track of Your Numbers

Knowing how many followers you need to go LIVE is a growth milestone for new creators looking to strengthen their strategy. If you want to keep an accurate count of your TikTok follower numbers, you can use a third-party TikTok follower counter.

These tools provide real-time tracking of increases and decreases in a user’s follower count. TikTok only accurately estimates a person’s follower numbers on their profile. On the other hand, a follower counter counts and provides a user’s follower numbers to the last digit.

You might also find the tool useful if you want to audit a TikTok profile you’re considering for a collaboration.

10 Tips for a Successful LIVE

Having at least 1,000 followers before going LIVE on TikTok for the first time makes sense. This minimum requirement ensures you’ll have a decent audience during your broadcast. Here are ten tips to help you capture more viewers and engagement for your stream:

  1. Identify trending topics in your niche for your LIVE content.
  2. Run a poll to determine what topics your followers want to learn more about.
  3. See what other creators in your industry are discussing on their LIVEs.
  4. Schedule your video broadcast when most of your followers are active on TikTok.
  5. Prepare a script/outline for your LIVE content.
  6. Create the right setup for your stream, i.e., choose a background and set up lighting and audio equipment if necessary.
  7. Perform a few test runs to make sure everything flows smoothly.
  8. Promote your upcoming stream via teaser videos you’ll share on your TikTok Stories and other social channels.
  9. Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
  10. For optimized targeting, use relevant keywords in your live stream’s title and description, as well as the right hashtags.

If you want to collaborate with another creator on a LIVE, select a co-host in your industry. Your identity and content style should complement each other. And each of you must have something valuable to offer your shared audiences.

TikTok’s minimum follower threshold to access its streaming feature is 1,000 followers. If you have fewer than 1K followers, you won’t find the LIVE option via TikTok’s Create mode. You can go LIVE without meeting the follower requirement — joining a live stream as a guest.
