It’s always an exciting new experience each time you open TikTok. You can expect to discover something new and interesting on your For You Page (FYP). TikTok’s algorithm continuously curates FYP videos based on your interests and interactions. But sometimes, you see content you don’t particularly like, such as LIVE videos. Let’s discuss how to stop getting LIVEs on TikTok FYP.

How To Stop TikTok LIVEs on FYP: Why Are There LIVEs on My Feed?

TikTok has a dedicated LIVE feed, so why are LIVEs also showing up on your FYP

Every now and then, TikTok recommends content that strays a bit from what a user typically likes. This includes LIVE content. TikTok almost always gets it right when recommending videos based on user interests. But it also does its best to introduce diversity to FYPs. It will show you new content you might be interested in to refine its recommendations further.

As TikTok explains, “This happens because TikTok’s recommendation system drops in diverse types of videos along with those you already know you love. That way, you can enjoy your favorite videos and explore new topics.”

How does TikTok personalize its recommendations? When you first use TikTok, it prompts you to choose your categories of interest. These choices lay the foundation for your FYP’s core recommendations. As you keep using the platform, TikTok’s recommendation system also takes into consideration the following primary factors:

  • Your interactions: These include the accounts you follow, the videos you like, comment on, and share, and the videos you create. How long you watch a video also informs the algorithm of your level of interest.
  • Your video information: Including the sounds and hashtags you use
  • Your device settings: Such as your language preference and location.

As you can see, video format is not among the primary factors for FYP recommendation. So, LIVEs pop up on your feed even if you haven’t previously interacted with LIVE content. Let’s find out how to turn off LIVEs on TikTok FYP.

How To Stop Getting LIVEs on TikTok FYP: Let TikTok Know What You Don’t Like

TikTok learns about your content preferences from your interactions on the platform. It figures out your interests according to your engagement. The more you engage with posts and accounts, the more personalized your FYP recommendations become.

But did you know that you can also let TikTok know what you don’t like?

When you come across a video that doesn’t align with your interests, you can remove it from your feed. You can inform TikTok that you’re not interested in the video. The algorithm will no longer recommend the same type of content. You can do this for LIVE videos, as well. Here’s how to stop seeing LIVEs on TikTok FYP:

  1. Long-press on the LIVE video.
  2. Tap Not interested
  3. Select a reason.

After tapping Not interested on a LIVE video for the first time, you should still expect to see LIVEs on your feed. This is because TikTok initially assumes you’re not interested in what the content is about, not the video format. When you see another LIVE, follow the same steps as above.

After you tap Not interested, you’ll see a new pop-up box with new options. See the image below.

Just tap Not interested in any LIVE videos. Again, it’s likely that your specified preference may not take effect right away. Keep tapping Not interested on the LIVEs that appear to tell TikTok that you really, really mean it.

Refresh Your FYP for a Whole New Experience

Are you tired of the tedious sameness of your FYP? Or perhaps your video tastes have changed. If you find yourself tapping Not interested more often than not, you should refresh your FYP instead. Just follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Profile icon in the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Tap the three-line icon in the top right.
  3. Select Settings and privacy
  4. Under Content & Display, select Content preferences
  5. Tap Refresh your For You feed, then tap Continue
  6. Tap Refresh

Remember that you can’t go back once you tap Refresh.

Keep Your Audiences Interested With Interesting and Varied Content

The key to getting consistent engagement is finding interested audiences for your content. In the fast-paced and ever-changing world of social media, however, user interests often evolve in the blink of an eye. And the larger your chosen niche or industry, the more creators you have to compete with.

Departing from the norm and thinking outside the box will help you stand out from the homogenous crowd.

You should also keep your finger on the pulse of your niche community. Analyze emerging trends to stay ahead of the curve. TikTok’s Creative Center is a great resource. It also doesn’t hurt to ask your fans directly what types of content they want to see more of.

If your posts are largely unvaried in content, you risk losing your target audience’s interest. Knowing how to stop getting LIVEs on TikTok also gives you insight into the disadvantages of a homogenous feed. But remember that no matter how specialized or small your niche is, there’s always room for growth.
