What Is TikTok Verification?

TikTok verification is the platform’s confirmation of the account’s ownership. TikTok gives an account the blue checkmark or verified badge when it has validated that it “belongs to the person or brand it represents.”

Especially when you’re following celebrities, public personalities, or brands, always look for the verified badge. The blue checkmark lets you know that the page is exactly who they say they are and that they’re not a fan account, parody page, or scammer.

A TikToker with a verified badge is better positioned to build credibility and trust in their community. Once you gain a solid foothold on the platform, the badge also protects you from fake accounts claiming to be you or representing you.

Remember that only TikTok can apply a verified badge to a person’s profile page. It always appears next to the username, even in search results. If the blue checkmark appears in the account’s bio, profile picture, or anywhere else on the page, it’s not a verified account.

How To Get Verified on TikTok

Can anybody get verified on TikTok? Want to know how to get verified on TikTok? TikTok considers a number of factors before handing out its blue check of approval. Their most important verification requirements are as follows:

  • Active account. TikTok requires an account login within the past six months.
  • Authenticity. The account must represent a natural person, business, or entity. TikTok typically requires only one form of identity/business verification. They may require more for language-specific, affiliate, or branded accounts and other unique situations. A business, institution, or entity must provide an email domain representing its official name, e.g., @tiktok.com. Otherwise, TikTok may request additional documentation. The account’s TikTok username must also be similar to the business name.
  • Complete profile. The account must have a username, profile photo, bio, and at least one video. It must be a public account.
  • Notability. The person, business, or entity must have mentions or features in multiple news sources. Press releases and sponsored/paid media are not considered for verification of identity.
  • Account security. The account must have a verified email address and a 2-step verification. These requirements ensure the account continues to belong to the stated owner and is protected against bad actors.

All accounts, including verified ones, must adhere to TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Verified accounts that violate Community Guidelines are also liable for punishment; the verified badge does not exempt them from penalties.

How Many Followers on TikTok To Get Verified?

How many followers on TikTok do you need to get verified? TikTok does not have a minimum follower count requirement for verification. Your account will not get the verified badge even if you have hundreds of thousands of followers if you don’t meet one of the above requirements.

If you believe you’re ready to receive your verified badge, follow these steps to request verification for your account:

  1. Go to your Profile and tap the three-line icon in the top right.
  2. Select Settings and privacy
  3. Tap Account, then tap Verification
  4. Apply for Personal and institution verification if you have a Personal Account; apply for a Business verification if you have a Business account
  5. Follow the steps to complete your verification request. These include documentation and credible written media coverage.

You can submit another request after 30 days if your request is not approved. If you don’t find the Verification option in your Account settings, you can submit a request through TikTok’s online form

Note that TikTok does not invite users to apply for a verified badge through DM, email, or other communication channels. If you receive such a message, report it to TikTok.

TikTok Removing Verified TikTokers

The blue tick on an account is not a TikTok endorsement. The verification badge you see beside the usernames of popular creators, influencers, celebrities, businesses, institutions, etc., simply signifies ownership authenticity.

TikTok reserves the right to deny verification or remove the blue checkmark without notice. When does TikTok remove verification?

  • When the original and verified account owner transfers ownership of the account, the verification becomes inauthentic and invalid.
  • When the owner changes the account’s username, they must re-apply for verification.
  • The original verification becomes invalid when the account type changes, such as from personal to business.
  • TikTok may revoke its verification when the account commits repeat or severe violations of TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
  • When the account uses inauthentic or artificial means to get verified, TikTok immediately takes away the verified badge.

Get Verified To Establish a Stronger TikTok Presence

Getting verified on social media platforms can be a big game changer for you and your competition. The blue checkmark tells people you mean serious business (even if your business is being funny).

Creators and brands in your industry will take you seriously if they weren’t before. New viewers will be more likely to visit your profile and do more than cursory browsing. And you can expect your organic TikTok follower growth to skyrocket.

Verified TikTokers are among the most successful on the platform, not because of their verified badge. They worked hard to build their credibility and earn their followers’ trust. On TikTok, keeping your head in the game mostly requires focusing on your community’s needs. If you want to ensure that you always stay on track, sign up for a High Social plan!
