TikTok Change Makers Program: An Initiative To Inspire
Positivity, diversity, authenticity, and the freedom to express oneself — these are among TikTok’s overarching themes. Recently, the platform launched the TikTok Change Makers Program to support creators and non-profits that aim to inspire change.
Time and again, brands and creators step up to the challenge of making a meaningful impact that resonates beyond the platform. Here’s everything we know so far about TikTok’s global social impact program.
What Is the Change Makers Program?
TikTok has consistently inspired creativity and joy, and the Change Makers Program is an extension of this purpose.
This latest initiative builds on the platform’s “ongoing commitment to foster a global community passionate about using #TikTokforGood.”
The “social impact, creator elevation program” spotlights creators and non-profit organizations that are creating meaningful change in their communities.
Launched on May 21st of this year, the program’s initial run will last six months. Throughout this period, TikTok will be supporting 50 purpose-driven creators — the Change Makers — from around the world to:
- Build engaged communities.
- Reach new audiences and unlock real-world opportunities to drive greater impact around their causes through dedicated tools, resources, and direct donations.
Integral to the program’s success is the TikTok Change Makers Grant through which TikTok is donating over one million U.S. dollars. This amount represents a $25,000 donation “in honor of every Change Maker” and their respective advocacies.
The donation goes directly to more than 30 global and local NGOs supporting various causes that matter.
“We’re proud to launch the TikTok Change Makers program to help social impact creators and non-profit organizations reach more communities, unlock real-world opportunities, and bring about lasting, meaningful change,” said Kim Farrell, Head of Creators, TikTok.
What Inspired TikTok To Create the Social Impact Program?
We can trace the program’s first iteration all the way back to 2021 when TikTok first launched TikTok for Good.
TikTok for Good is a platform that empowers and supports TikTok’s creative partners around the world and their important initiatives. It’s a central hub where TikTok’s earliest change makers gather to build more entertainment that drives positive impacts.
Today, the @tiktokforgood page has 1.2 million followers. The hashtag #TikTokforGood has racked up more than 50,000 posts. Each post showcases the community’s commitment “to drive meaningful change and unlock real-world impact.”
TikTok for Good was the foundation and inspiration for the Change Makers Program.
Social impact creators like Spencer West (@spencer2thewest), Shina Novalinga (@shinanova), and Emily Durham (@emily.the.recruiter) embody the spirit of TikTok’s social impact initiative.
They’re also among 50 inaugural global Change Makers whom TikTok gathered to advocate, inspire, educate, and drive collective change worldwide.
Get To Know TikTok’s Change Makers
As part of its official launch, TikTok also unveiled the program’s inaugural list of Change Makers. The list includes 50 purpose-driven creators from around the world.
For each Change Maker, TikTok is donating $25,000 to one of more than 30 global and local NGOs representing each creator’s respective advocacy.
Let’s meet some of these Change Makers:
- Abdullah Annan, @annanscience, from Egypt. Popularly known as “The Arab Science Guy” on TikTok, Annan breaks down complex scientific scenarios into easy-to-understand content to educate his viewers.
- Arthur Baucheron, @arthurbaucheron, from France. Arthur’s vibrant personality and zest for life always shine through in his content. Living with spinal muscular atrophy, he travels around France to reshape perceptions about disability.
- Shina Novalinga, @shinanova, from Canada. Shina is an Inuit creator leveraging the platform to showcase indigenous traditions and raise awareness about her culture.
- Ze Pando Espinoza, @perutequierolimpio, from Peru. Ze founded Perú Te Quiero Limpio, an environmental network of more than 15,000 volunteers. The movement is dedicated to cleaning up and preserving the natural beauty of Peru’s coastlines.
